Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has defended his government’s new land pooling scheme, describing it as pro-farmer and essential for the state’s development. He urged residents not to fall for “misleading propaganda” from opposition parties. Speaking in Dhuri while distributing ₹31.3 crore in grants to 70 villages for development work, Mann accused the opposition of distorting facts about the scheme for political gain.

“There will be no forcible land acquisition,” he said, adding that the policy is voluntary and intended to create long-term assets for farmers. Under the scheme, those who opt in will receive commercial and residential plots within planned colonies.

“The idea is to make farmers stakeholders in Punjab’s progress,” Mann explained, calling the scheme a game-changer for rural livelihoods. The Chief Minister assured the public that the project will proceed transparently and in line with legal procedures. “The farmers will benefit through permanent commercial property ownership, giving them a sustained income,” he said.

Mann also highlighted the government’s broader development agenda. He said the funds being released for village development are unprecedented and emphasized that panchayats should ensure quality implementation of infrastructure works.

Slamming previous administrations, he claimed that development was often limited to paperwork, with funds barely reaching the grassroots. “Now, every village in Dhuri will be developed as a model village,” he promised.

On infrastructure, Mann noted the revival of over 15,900 watercourses across Punjab, which has improved water access in far-flung villages—particularly for farmers at the tail ends of canals.

The Chief Minister also touted achievements in healthcare, employment, and energy. He said 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics have provided free treatment to more than three crore patients, and over 55,000 government jobs have been given out based solely on merit.

Additionally, Mann said that 90% of households now receive free electricity and 18 toll plazas have been shut, saving citizens an estimated ₹64 lakh daily. The state has also launched India’s first dedicated Road Safety Force, which, according to Mann, has helped reduce road accident fatalities by nearly 50%.

On public health, he announced the launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna on October 2—a scheme that promises cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per family. In a nod to Punjabi tradition, Mann referenced the passage of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2025, aimed at reviving rural sports like bullock cart races. “These games are part of our heritage,” he said, “and will be promoted responsibly, without animal cruelty.”

Mann concluded by asserting that his administration is committed to inclusive and sustainable development, calling on citizens to look beyond politics and support reforms designed to uplift rural Punjab.
